Con la usura ningún hombre tiene una casa de buena piedra,
cada bloque bien cortado y ajustado
y un diseño que pueda cubrir su rostro,
con la usura
ningún hombre tiene un paraíso pintado en la pared de su iglesia
harpes et lutes
o una virgen que reciba un mensaje
y un halo se proyecte desde una grieta;
con usura
no ve Gonzaga a sus herederos y concubinas,
no se pinta ningún cuadro para que perdure y viva
sino para venderlo, y venderlo enseguida;
con la usura, pecado contra natura,
es tu pan solo unas migajas rancias,
es tu pan tan seco como el papel,
sin trigo de la montaña, sin harina dura;
con la usura la línea se hace gruesa,
con la usura no hay límites claros
y ningún hombre puede hallar un lugar para su morada.
El cantero es apartado de su piedra
el tejedor es apartado de su telar,

la lana no llega al mercado
ni produce ganancia la oveja.
La usura es una peste, la usura
embota la aguja en la mano de la muchacha
y detiene la destreza de la hilandera. Pietro Lombardo

With usura hath no man a house of good stone
each block cut smooth and well fitting
